5:00 PM, please?
So not wanting to be at work today.
I was late this morning. I attempted, with no success, to tie a freakin' tie this morning. I figured -- I'm going out to dinner tonight with friends, I'm wearing a shirt that one of J's ties would look cool with, so I attempted. Utterly failed. So I flipped the computer on, and hit Google. Two print-outs, several attempts and 30 minutes later, I think I got something that looked decent. Then I tried to push the little tab in back into the slot thingie that all ties have ... and the threads on one of the tab thingie were busted. So, my options where to get a needle and thread and fix it, making myself MORE late, or removing the noose. I opted for the latter.
Oi.
I've been barraged since I got into work, too. People needing to talk to me. Don't they KNOW that I'm just listening to them, thinking about City of Heroes, Sewing, Dinner tonight and Vacation next week?

YAY! ayyaayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay
Raise! Promotion! They've been officially *stamped* by the big boss. HR has to push the changes through, and I'm golden.
*happy dance*

Sew Sew Sew...
I have homework for the first time in many months.
Matthew's helping me (or shall I rightly say -- I'm helping Matthew) make a new doublet for Ren Fest for me. I really want to have it done for the Ren Fair Outing that we've tentatively scheduled for mid Septemner. The problem isn't going to be time-devotion, I think; the problem will be TIME in general.
I got home from work last night and got dinner ready. After dinner, I worked for 3 hours doing above mentioned homework. I'm hand sewing cording over a quilting on the doublet. I have about 15 lines to do on the vertical and 17 on the horizontal -- and in 3 hours, I got two done. Oi.
I think I picked up speed as I went, but I definitely think I have my work cut out for me these next few weeks ;) I should take it on vacation over Labor day with me. We'll see how that flies. I've been meaning to start on a project for a gift for a friend, and that's a bit more portable than the doublet is. We'll see.
I'll post pics tonight to mark progress.

Buffy Threesome...

Ping!
Thought I'd check in with all the blog readers to let them know I haven't, indeed, fallen off into non-post land.
The last week or so has been really busy at work, which is where I usually blog and blog read. This is good as it makes the day fly by. This is bad because I've still not gotten my promised promotion or raise, which frustrates me into a place beyond reason. I've been doing said job for almost 3 months now, which includes supervising two staff. It's becoming increasingly difficult to not take my frustration out on them, since they're not responsible for any of the hold up. And yet, I have to catch myself to prevent myself from being grumpy.
It's really odd having staff. It's almost like I'm in a relationship with them. I have to know their quirks to communicate to them. I have to know how to approach something to get the result I desire, too.
What's different about having staff from being in a relationship is that I end up comparing them to each other. I suppose this might happen if I had broader experience in relationships, but there you go.
My first staff guy, who was in his position and whom I was psuedo-training before I was "promoted", is hyper. He's *very* excited about his job, to the point that he visibly bounces when I give him projects. He's in his early 30's, but seems to act more like someone in his early 20's. He's a good guy, but I find I have to attempt to curb his enthusiasm just a bit. Whenever he needs something to do, he turns to me and gives me a look I can identify now. "I'm Bored." He used to have to tell me that. I can now tell right away when he's bored.
My other staff, who started at the beginning of August, is also a decent guy. He seems to not pick up on the tech stuff as fast as the other guy, though. I find I only have to explain to J once, but have to keep explaining things to B several times. And I still don't really know if he gets it. I also am never sure if he's doing his work. He does NOT tell me when he's bored. I have figured out that I have to send him something to work on every day or so, just to make sure he's got something on his plate to work on.
All in all, it's interesting. I just wish all this stupid red-tape crap would resolve, so I'd actually get compensated for the extra work and responsibilities I have. I've started looking at the posting board to see if there's anything interesting up there on the off-hand chance something catches my fancy.
I do know this: I'm tired of waiting. I'm up to asking my boss twice a week about it.

It's better with a bit 'o Greek...
Went to a Greek Food tasting last night. It's not a cuisine I've explored much. I've decided I need to explore it more ;) It was one of the best tastings I've been to at Zingermans. Fabulous food! We tried 3 or 4 different ways to prepare feta, two or three ways to prepare two other Greek cheeses (who's names escape me this morning). I bought 1/2 pound of feta and some hazelnut fig spread that was just yummy.
I need to locate some decent Pastry Puff dough. LM indicated that it'd probably be one of those labor-intensive things to make from scratch, but that I could probably find some frozen-ready-to-bake varietal. I'll look at Meijer tonight to see if I can find something. J seemed keen on me trying to make this feta and honey stuffed pastry ;) oo! I could add a tiny dollop of the fig spread to the middle, too. I bet that'd be good.

Basil, Basil, Every Where....
and not a Pesto in sight.
If you want some fresh (sweet) FREE Basil, do holler. I've a ton of it just now, and it'll go to waste if it's not used up.
