Count Every Vote: Sign the Petition

Dear Friend,

I just signed this petition to count every vote this November.

We must act now to ensure that our voting systems produce accurate and verifiable results.

Some states are planning to use machines that will not allow voters to verify their choices. This means that any flaws in the machine or software will never be caught -- and no recount will be possible.

And the head of the largest e-voting machine company -- who is a major contributor to George Bush and has promised to deliver Ohio to him -- asks that we just trust him.

Please join me by signing this call for accountability:

http://petition.democracyforamerica.com/page/p/verify/16559

Thanks!

Dreams....

Had weird dreams last night....

I was a teen-type in a home for "gifted" people -- a la X-men. We each had Superpowers. Mine seemed to be the ability to fly and focus my thoughts to make people freeze in place breifly.

So, all the adults were missing. We kids found some alter-thing on the grounds of the school/home, and it looked like we were supposed to push some button things. We did, and the ground shook. We were transported somewhere.

The scene then changed to the cul-de-sac that I currently live on, with the school in the place of the house. The trees were quite a lot larger than in the cul-de-sac at the moment. Kalel was there, as well as the other adults that we were missing. We start investigating, and I was flying about to get an idea of where we were.

Scene changed the farther I went from the school/house/cul-de-sac. After some more investigation, we determined we were in Hell.

I took a fire-powered boy to go investigate a big firey thing. It ended up being Satan. Fireboy couldn't get too close, 'cause it was evidently too hot for him.

We headed back and were "punished" for getting too close -- the Satan figure put shades on all the "windows" in the sky (which I hadn't noticed until then), and turned up the heat. It was HOT.

...It was here that I woke up from the dream breifly in a drenched sweat. Weird. I kicked covers around to cool off, and fell back asleep. The dream resumed...

Now I was back in the Cul-de-sac/school. I flew around and found folks. By this point, we were being attacked by demons. I told folks to gather in a spot just outside the cul-de-sac, which looked like a large courtyard of grey stone. about 50 people gathered, and I was directing people to form a circle with key-witchy people at the "correct" numerical spots. Some teen-looking boys came over to heckle us as we were gathering, and I froze them long enough for a guy who can take people sight away temporarily did his thing. We formed our circle and I gave the group three options to get free:

1) Cast a spell to try and undo what the button things did;
2) Cast a summoning to try and bring an Angel to assist/absolve us;
3) Cast a spell to try and put a dome around us, hoping that would eject us from hell.

The group decided on the first option, and we started casting.....

...and then the alarm rang.

The odd part is that I don't often remember dreams in this vivid of detail. It's 9 AM, and I still remember images and details.

FFX-2

Weee! I'm hooked. Just got to chapter two last night. I've learned, the hard way, that the Star system for indicating the ease or difficulty of the area DOES NOT translate into how easy or difficult the fiends of the area are. I went to a a 3-star (medium) difficulty area (Bikanel Dessert), and got thoroughly whomped.

I think I'm going to pause the story-line progression for a bit while I level up. I want to get my people some more skills. I think if I give each woman at least one full ability set of a physical attack-type and one full set of magic/support type, I should be good. We'll see how the patience holds out for leveling.

Gardening

Jarrod and I did landscaping and gardening stuffs for a good 5 hours on Sunday, thanks to some good friends who offered free stuff from a to-be-demolished gardener's paradise. I think I want to get a few more goodies, assuming the offer still holds a bit longer. All in all, we got and 'installed':

4 Honey Locust trees
~12 Trillium plants, white and pink varieties
Several large rocks
1 very big Hosta
2 cedar or Arbor Vitea (can't tell which they are).
2 day lilies

I think I still want to get a few more day lilies, some columbine (if there's any left), a bunch more rocks (possibly line the dry-creek bed in back) and another hosta or two. Maybe some buttercup as well.

Monday, I planted the basil in the garden boxes Matthew has loaned me. I'll look into getting a tomato plant, a large pot and some potting soil tonight or tomorrow from Lowe's to start the tomatoes off.

Fun Fun.

Hellboy!

Finally saw this last night. Which was good, since last night was the LAST NIGHT it was going to be in the theatres.

It was hokey, but still fun. I've never read any of the comic books (I assume it's a comic...). Some of the effects weren't quite as smooth/integrated as they could have been, but still, it was fun.

Teacher's Pet

I'm progressing in the Buffy Series. Just watched episode 5 last night, "Teacher's Pet". I'm watching about two episodes a week. I know that's not a lot, but it's more TV than I'm used to watching, really.

The not watching TV thing? That wasn't because of school. It's actually related to something Jarrod found on a TV news story a few weeks ago. It seems that people in my age group -- the 20-something males -- are not watching as much TV as the 20-somethings from 5 or 10 years back. We're a "difficult market" to tap and entice to watch Television.

Most of my entertainment requires a computer or video game console. Or friends. All three of those are sans television, mostly. I don't have cable connected to my TV in the den, but I do have two gaming consoles. So. To each their own, I suppose. :)

But I am enjoying the Biffy series so far. It's an interesting balance of camp, pop culture, horror and fantasy.

Quite a lot on the list....

I've got quite a lot on the list of things to do this week. And you know? All of these ... I WANT to do. Yay.

  • Pick up planting boxes from Matthew

  • Buy garden soil

  • Research raised-bed gardening on the web

  • Buy supplies to build raised-bed garden

  • Buy tomato plants

  • Plant garden

  • Begin (finish?) deck de-wasping by nailing boards up in the railing "nesting sites".

  • Buy 1 eunymous (or whatever those green things are) and 1 more Norton Spirea, plant

  • See Van Helsing

  • See Hell Boy--Done!

iPod, therefore iAm

With the generosity of friends and family, I purchased a 15 GB iPod from Target on Wednesday last. I've spent the week's spare time updating and configuring iTunes, adding in all the ID3 tag info to my tunes, filtering out songs I don't want on the iPod (Christmas tunes), and ripping CDs into MP3.

Love it. I absolutely recommend and iPod and iTunes for Mp3 players portable and stationary.

I only had one issue with the thing -- it came with a Firewire connection, only. I had to go and purchase a separate cable to connect the iPod to my computer, since I don't have a firewire port on the PC at all. So, an extra $20.00 and I was finally able to transfer music over.

All in all, it's handy. I took the *STACK* of cd's from my desk here at work home on Friday. It frees up a suprising amount of room on my rather small work surface.

We are much pleased ;)

And as such, this blog is moving with it. New coordinates for the Transceiver are:

Please update your Comm Logs (blogs or websites) with the new URL. This will be the last post to the U of M servers, and as soon as I can find a decent SFTP client, the U of M site will be removed and forwarders placed to the new home.

Something to Sing About.

It was a great party. Thanks to everyone who came out to help celebrate.

The ceremony was much better than I was anticipating. The keynote speaker was amazing. The senior class speaker was trite and cliche. The president was a bit of a bore, sadly. But overall, I enjoyed it.

And here's the web version of events: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~pfrankli/images/grad2004/

I forgot to take pics at the party. Being social butterfly means it's hard to keep track of the camera!

I did get pics of the fabulous Zingerman's cake. Chocolate cake with Buttercream icing. To die for.

Where Do We Go From Here?

I'm going to relax, mostly. Do whatever I want, when I want. Barring work, of course. I've got some goals -- we'll see if I can follow through on them.

Goal 1

I'd like to start up at the Washtenaw Rec Center and take some classes. Yoga looks interesting and it's supposed to improve flexibility. I should probably mention that I rarely passed flexibility tests in gym class. I'd love to take swimming lessons, because I don't know how to swim very well. I want to do some cardio (swimming counts) and perhaps work on some weight machines. I'm thinking of trying 2 days a week and move up to 3 in a few months. It's on my list to research the Rec Center Website this week.

Goal 2

I'd also love to get back into playing music. Ypsi has both a civic band and civic orchestra. I don't know how competative they are. I'm thinking I can probably get a college undergrad or grad student to give me private lessons until I'm back up to speed.

That's what's on my mind so far. I want to read some books I've been meaning to read. I want to play some games I've been meaning to play.
