Welcome to the Hellmouth
So! As a reward for completing my final task of my undergraduate degree, I took the afternoon off. I came back from the exam and my mind was waaaay not into work. So I asked my boss, and it was all good.
I went home, ate leftover Chinese food for lunch and watched the first two episodes of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer season 1. It was fun. Willow is way different than in later episodes I've caught bits and pieces of.
I now know that you can kill a Vamp by decapitating them. Handy, that.
Wierdness
When I walked into my exam yesterday, there were dark clouds surrounding the campus. Literally, it was cool and stormy-looking. When I got out, it was sunny and blue. It was as if the weather KNEW ;)
Pah-tay
Still a bit on the to-do list before the party Saturday:
- Clean the place - Dust, sweep, vaccum, mop.
- Buy groceries.
- Make pasta salad.
- Make potato salad.
- Pick up my Zingerman's Graduation Cake. Hunk'a'burnin' love chocolate cake with buttercream icing.
- Defrost meat for grilling.
- Attempt to sell books back and cry at the horrible value they'll give me....

Cheap Shots....
I did web work work for a friend who bought into a salon business a few months back. I'm kicking myself for not making a written contract now. I figured -- he was a friend, he's good for it.
He ended up leaving the business. Which was fine. The owner contacted me and indicated she wanted to pay for my work. Great. Several months and several communications produced nothing. I talked to a lawyer to ask for advise. He advised I yank the site. I waited another month attempting to contact the owner a few more times. I eventually got ahold of her, and she said she'd get me a partial payment. Which never arrived.
So, I yanked the site and sent a letter. She referred the letter to her lawyer, who happens to be a friend of hers. The letter's main message didn't really piss me off -- she doesn't want a website. Fine. Nevermind the fact that the webstatistics show an average of 250 individual IPs hitting the site per month since the launch, with more hits recently. That was probably generating some interest in her business. What pissed me off royaly, and still has me steaming, is this line: "...your alleged services were inadequete and unsatisfactory."
Now, I *know* she's never visited the website. I'm fairly certain her attorney never did, either. To call my work inadequete and unsatisfactory is rude and uncalled for. Cheap. It's Cheap.
I received a small boon when I contacted the friend I originally did the work through for the business. By his estimation, she owes several people multiple tens of thousands of dollars. I can only hope that karma bites her in the ass and causes her all manner of unpleasant things. She's certainly earned them in my book.
I keep toying with responding to this yokel's letter. His website isn't all that grand. It generated 60 line-item problems when I ran it through the WC3's web validiation algorithm. I know he's a personal friend of the salon owner. Based on the usage stats of the webserver, the e-mail accounts haven't been touched since the friend left the business in December. So, I'm confident that neither of these dorks have web knowledge whatsoever. He claimed the "web site" was registered to the friend. Um, no. Network Solutions had it registered to the business, with an admin contact of the friend. I didn't bother to change it since I wasn't going to do any additional work for them if they weren't paying me.
Gr Gr Gr Gr.
Always written contract. Always. If someone is going to pay me for web stuffs, get it in writing.
I'm still just fuming about this. I want to retaliate. I want to.

12 days.
*grits teeth*
weekend...
The weather was just LOVELY. We finally took the extra blanket off the bed, as it's now officially Warm out. :D We ended up going to my folks on Sunday. Mom's definitely increased the amount of nicotine she's ingesting. Luckily, it was gorgious outside and I could sit out on the porch with the dogs.

Party invites out.
..If you didn't get one, then the e-mail got shoved into a spam filter or I didn't have an updated address. So please send me an updated address! :)
What to do, what to do...
For the last year or two, I've had two regular monthly campaigns. One ended in February, the other is ending next month. This leaves me totally game-less, which isn't going to work. Must find something to join -- I enjoy roleplaying.
I'm also tempted to try my hand at a Zero Movement serial for the gaming group. Decisions, decisions.
So close.... 9 days until my last paper is due. 15 days until my last exam. 18 days until graduation.
Life needs a remote. A fast forward button would be keen right about now.

Another pointless meme Via Nuadha's Tale
1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says: "Normalization is a fancy term for the process of testing your table design against a series of rules that ensure your application wil operate as efficiently as possible. " - Alison Balter's Mastering Access 97 Development.
2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first? A coffee cup.

April Fools...
I just don't like this "holiday".
I've issues with trust, I admit. I grew up in a place where the truth of the matter changed depending on neurotic whim, a phenomenon that still holds to this day. "The Story" often changes -- first there's a benevolent benefactor who's giving a free, pure-bred & pedigreed puppy away. A few days later, there was an ad in the newspaper. One minute there was one more puppy available ... and then when I wanted the lady's phone number, they were all taken.
I'm waiting for money to be missing from their checkbook and we all find out weeks later that it was a ruse. I'm just waiting.
So, even little fibs ... I just can't find funny. Some guy here at work did that to me. I'm busy here of late. I'm speeding off to a meeting, and he says hi. Then tells me the database I administer is down. I stop in my tracks and head back to my desk. As the elevator doors closed, I heard him say "April Fools."
I was late to my meeting.
I know it's all in good fun. And I'm not chastising anyone who likes the day or did anything on the day. Just musing. I seem to be in that kind of mood this morning.
