Face Lift
Have finally seen my webpage at higher res. The way I was doing the gradient background caused it to clip off on resolutions over 1200 wide.
So, made the page background a standard web blue (000099), and adjusted the gradient to go from a darker blue to a slighter lighter blue.
Overall effect is that it's a little brighter, and the banner now needs re-work. I don't have the PSD file in my AFS space, so I'll have to adjust that from home.

Coffee drip, please. Intravenous.
Just feeling SO lethargic today. I don't know what's up. I've had to combat it with twice the normal amount of caffiene today.
Ugh.
The Apathetic Paper
Three weeks ago, I started a paper that I was seriously procrastinating on. It was due OCt 16th, and I just didn't feel like doing it. So, I cranked out a paper I was considering pretty half-assed. I was expecting a B on it - it was solid work, just tossed together quickly and strung together without much thought.
He, of course, freaked everyone out with the grade distribution on the board thing, and talked for 20 minutes about what people did wrong and how to improve. Blah Blah. I was still expecting a B. Got the thing back - A (1 of 2 in the class, according to the distibution on the board). I was a bit surprised, and I've determined -- I need to be DONE WITH SCHOOL.
Just before papers were handed back, the students wanted a review session for our exam next week. It's an essay exam -- not much to study for, beyond reading the things we were supposed to read. I got the impression they wanted to be spoon-fed their literary analysis of the texts.
I so need to be done with school ;)

Repeat
The cleverness of this song isn't it's lyrics. It's the composition - he uses a familiar orchestral line that builds and builds. It's almost like he's using the lyrics in the place of what the music usually holds, and the music takes on what the lyrics normally do. It's an overall NEAT effect.

SO full...
Still.
Last night, my company treated everyone involved in this massive re-org project to dinner at the Chop House. It was wonderful, as always ... and more so that it wasn't coming out of my pocket ;)
I had some peppered calamari, a mini-Maine Lobster tail half and even tried an oyster. It was sort of ...gritty. They said it was "sediment". Ok. At Joe's Crab Shack I'm sure it's sand. At the Chop House, we'll call it "sediment".
I then had a bowl of Lobster Bisque (which is the best soup I've ever had), Bone in Tenderloin for dinner (which was a special that came with a tiny bit of garlic mashed potatoes and carrots), followed by the Bananas Foster Crepes and a Spanish Coffee. Only managed part of the Spanish coffee as I'd gluttoned enough by that point.
Resultant is ... I'm not hungry this morning. At all. Definitely shouldn' do that much consuming very often.

Scary...
The party was fun :) We had to jet a little earlier than we'd normally - the bronchial thing Jarrod's managed to get was aggrivated by allergies, I think.
Allergies are a pain. I wish they'd go away - in both of us. I'd love to have a pet (assuming Post-school, of course), but I don't know that it'd be feasible with both of our allergies. Ah well. I'll just have to pet Neo when I'm over there ;)
Good food, good costumes, good chat. It was a fun party. Next year ought to be entertaining as well. I was informed that The Pumpkin King wasn't able to quite do everything he would have liked for this year. Digging actual graves? That means you really love the holiday ;)
Sunday was spent doing much Phantasy Star Online. Weee.

"Is it warm in here?"
I keep asking my office-mate this. Luckily, it *IS* warm in here. They have the heat on (since the temp outside is lower than 60 degrees), and I have a south-facing window. Thus, it gets warm in here often.
But I have to keep checking to make sure I'm not getting the communal disease that seems to be rampantly spreading...

MOOoOOOooooooooooo
It's that time of the year, folks.
Anyone interested in getting part of a side of beef, please let me know. Aular At Yahoo Dot Com.
Ideally, we'd like a multiple of three to split. A half-cow yielded 3 portions that lasted us from last November to about now, so that seemed perfect for Van Kirk/Franklin house. A half cow is about 300 pounds or so, and I think cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.50 a pound processed. Which was *much* cheaper than buying all that meat at a wholesale club like Sams, even.
You are, of course, free to split your third as you'd like. If we get 6 requests, I'll need money up-front as J and I won't be able to foot $800 for moo-parts.

Party in Hell....
Can I go as myself? *grins* That probably won't work and I don't really believe hell exists, but eh. It'd be an easy costume and a political/spiritual statement.
Need to think of something. I was going to try for someone historical like Constantine, but then I'd be asked all night who I was.
"Who are you?" "Constantine." "Constant-who?" "Constantine. The Roman Emperor who legalized Christianity in the Empire." "Oh." Unimpressed look.
I'm sure Jack will have a witty, recognizable and fabulous costume. Which means I have to at least attempt something, since it is his party and I'm guessing it'll make him happy to have in-costume folks around.

I can't wait for it to be over. Seems some Karmic force is driving odd things my way.
Which has included, just this morning, me running into the wheelbarrow that we're tossing out (flat/busted tire) which didn't damage the car body, but did break a tail light. *sighs* And of course, they're way more expensive than I care to spend on my frickin' car. $65 for a piece of plastic? Running fast through a fairy tale/ Dark woods: starless night / Feel cold air in my lungs / Full moon, u follow me -- u say / "Why do hearts so often stray?" / U pierce me like an arrow / Beneath the blanket of night / Longing for flight // CHORUS: When u fall into me / It feels so sweet like dreaming / Press yourself into me / Let me feel your breathing / There's a voice in your heart / Softly calling / Come 2 me u will see, just give in / 2 this sweet temptation // I awake, do a double take 2 see / Where it is that I lay - it could be / Day or night - I'm not quite sure / Your absence is a thorn / Your flesh, your skin / Is the only flag there is 2 believe in // CHORUS // I can love u like nobody else / When u fall into me / It feels so sweet, like dreaming / Press yourself in to me / Let me feel your breating / There's a voice in your heart / Softly calling // CHORUS

There's this PERSON here at work who wears so much perfume, that it washes in waves before she enters the room. She's in this office a lot, since she helps out (fawns over and overtly sexually harrasses, somedays) my office suite mate.

Getting there
Pumpkin's roasted and the new networking pieces are put together so that Matthew can now be uber-geek with this hubbed PS2 and Gamecube. All I need is a GC, then I can match his Uber-Abilities ....
That damn pumpkin was HUGE. I only need 1.5 cups for one pie (I might make two), and the pumpkin yielded 15 cups! So, I now have pumpkin sitting in the freezer downstairs for Thanksgiving, Christmas cookies ... and several more uses besides. I'm glad it freezes well!
Sadly, Gawain did not get read. I'll have to make an effort to finish it tonight as I have a paper due on a topic within it in less than a week. 5 pages, textual analysis. Shouldn't be hard. I already know what I want to argue, so I just have to make sure the rest of the text supports it and that I can summon ample evidence within the text. (I'm going to argue that the text, with it's use of irony, casts the role of the Green Knight, who is really overly laden with pagan symbology, as the ideal Christain who has to teach the ideal Christian Knight how to be a Christain and a Knight.)
Today, I need to make fliers to pass out to the people on the Court. Jarrod wanted to invite them, and I figured leaving a flier on their door is all I have time for at the moment.
Tonight's list, in order of importance:
-Get beet soup to stage 2 -Make pumpkin pie -Attempt to hang the 4 pictures that we haven't hung yet, but want to (1 bedroom, 3 master bath) -Clean master bath, bedroom, den, utility room, (kitchen?). Dust everything. -Read Gawain, at least part 3 and hopefully part 4 -Read the last chapter in the History textbook for the midterm Thursday -Start History DB to organize the timeline to study for Exam (the book is horribly out of order, and history is largely about context of events between places and peoples) -Work on Dessange website (implementing the last page, updating the navigation) -Fix KFO e-mail forwarders for new term's lords -Watch an episode of Carnival on TiVo
Eeks. I'd like to play PSO. We'll see how far down the list I get before I get too mentally drained to want to do anything else.

High Gear!
Last night's accomplishments:
1) Cooked dinner: Steaks, broccoli, mashed sweet potatoes; 2) Made Butternut Squash and Apple soup for Saturday, froze it 3) Pressure cooked a chicken to make chicken broth for Beet Soup for Saturday 4) Read a chapter/part in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight 5) Called 4 relatives who don't have e-mail to let them know about the party Saturday.
Tonight's To-Do's: 1) Finish Beet Soup, freeze 2) Cut up and roast pumpkin 3) Help Matthew get the Gamecube broadband adapter working with the wireless network in the basement 4) read part 4 in Gawain, unless I get to that at lunch today, in which case I'll read the history textbook or the Prologue to The Canturbury Tales 5) Call the rest of the relatives about the party (3 more left).
Zoom Zoom Zoom Zoom...
Friday ought to be better: 1) Clean 2) Make pumpkin-rum pie 3) Relax, center myself for Maevyn on Saturday and Lysis on Sunday.

Quiz
Had a hard time deciding between one of two answers on one question. They produce different results:
1)
You represent... hope. You're quite a daydreamer and can be a hopeless romantic. You enjoy being creative and don't mind being alone at times. You have goals, and know what you want in life... even if they are a little far fetched.
What feeling do you represent? brought to you by Quizilla
2)
You represent... kindness. You're a very gentle, kind, and caring individual. You truely care about people and are generally well-liked. Though sometimes you may be perceived as weak, you truely have a strong heart and a good desire to help others.

The Weekend
Was decent, though quite busy. Friends over Friday night. I had a cooking bug, so we had Chicken in Mole, Chicken in Salsa Verde, Refried beans and Spanish Rice. The homemade salsa wasn't touched, but everything else was so saucy I chalked it up to that.
Saturday was landscaping, installing cabinetry in the laundry room (which went well!) and cleaning the garage out for Car-room, and then a FestiFall party for some friends of Jarrod's out in Tecumseh. The house was fabulous, but I'm a wuss about any drive that takes more than 20 minutes ;)
Sunday was spent finishing the landscaping that we're going to do this fall (minus planting the tulips and daffodils we bought and the incoming Irises :) ), and helping Matthew do some finish work on the two test Roman Shades, in between helping LM unload the big truck here in A2. I also had a hankering for crepes, so I made those for brunch, with Frangelico in the batter, which just WORKS! We spent Sunday night flipping back and forth between the Trading Spaces 100 Grand Episode (WOW - amazing rooms) and Charmed.
I'm now behind on homework, so this week I'll need to make a concerted effort to get back on track. *sigh*
The Week Upcoming
Ideally, we'll finish the Roman Shades. Realistically - we might not get there. That'll be up to our Stitcher (a term we learned on Trading Spaces ;) ). Tuesday, the big load of trash will go out and we can start being lazy bums and park in the Garage. Wednesday and Thursday I'll likely spend trying to get some things prepared for the Housewarming party - I'm thinking about doing Beet Soup (heavy in meat, I'm afraid), Butternut Squash soup (veggie-friendly), Pumpkin Pie (of a fabulous recipe from a friend), and possibly (if I'm not too tired by Friday) Ricotta Pillows. We'll also have mulled cider for the Housewarming, so I have to remember to get cheesecloth this week.
In Fourteen-Hundred and Ninty-Two ...
That dope struck blind luck and made history. And because of it, I'll likely have Monday off. Which will be an excellent time to recoop and do more catch-up on Homework. 1st paper due in the English course on the 16th.
Banks *DO* have their perks, even if I'm on my way to hell for being a usurer. :D

Busy week
It's been a bit .. whirlwind-ish here at work. This weekend, on the home front, should be equally whirlwindish as we prepare the final bits for the housewarming. My three goals before the 11th are:
1) Be able to get both cars into the Garage; 2) Have the plants we purchased planted; 3) Have the roman shades in the Kitchen in place.
Not a lot, but combined with school work and the fact that Phantasy Star Online pretty much has my soul which requires me to play in an effort to win it back, means I'm pretty busy! :)
Concerning Lysis...
Given that I'm studying European history, which is something I opted out of in high school, I've been getting all sorts of ideas for what Lysis could do in AFDS. I think I've got a decent direction for him in the short term now, and while I still need to fully think through the long term plans, I've a rough idea of what he could do long term, given the correct plot tossed at him.

My New Leash
My boss, every once in a while, gets into a funk when she can't find me. A few weeks back this happened - I was in a (LONG) meeting that she enlisted me to go to, and she tried to find me at my desk. I wasn't there. I had a long voicemail message about "I don't know where you are, maybe you're taking an extra long lunch or something... blah blah blah." It was rather terse, and definitely cranky.
So, in an effort to stop this from occuring again (because it happens every few months or so), I suggested she get me a pager, or get me a cradle for work to set up my lotus notes calendar with my schedule stuff. I preferred the latter, but she liked the former. Thus ... this. A pager.
I hate the thing already. It buzzes me with inane crap that I don't need to see.
*sighs*
