WeEEEE! Vacation! yay.
I can't wait for 3:30. That's the target time to leave here for an extended weekend of nothing.
Double-edged sword
I like labor day. We've made it a nearly yearly tradition to head to Jarrod's family cabin in up-state Pennsylvania. The only problem with Labor Day is that it also marks the beginning of the school year for me.
*sighs*
I've grown very tired of school. I'm now taking classes with 20 and 21 year-olds (Jrs and Srs), who are most often on someone else's dime and not really caring any more about what they learn or about making the experience a learning one for them and others. Group discussions involve me and a handeful of other students, while the majority of people stare blankly around the room for the duration, attempting to occupy themselves with something and barely able to cover their apathy.
I'm ready to be done with it. 5 more classes. Just 3 more semesters. 5 classes - 3 semesters. I'm almost counting the days.
My Time is not my own
At least, that's the way school feels. Read this. Do that. Write this. I feel like I don't own my time when I'm in school. I used to read for pleasure - but as an English major I am so overwhelmed with reading during school, that I don't even think about books for pleasure when not in school. It will probably take a bit after graduation before I'll feel like picking up things to read for pleasure again.
New Project
Speaking of using free time up, I've started a new project. I'm trying my hand at being a realweb guy! Jacques Dessange Ann Arbor. That's just the construction page. They bulk of what I've done is still on my PC at home. It'll get added in the next week or so. I'm exchanging 50% cash and 50% salon/spa services for web work. It's fun (even though it feels like work at times and I just don't want to do it), and I get to flex the creative muscles. They want "classical modern" - so I'm trying a few things to affect that goal. We'll see.
And to Nuahda....
....All "us boys" feel your pain, sir. I hope it passes quickly, quietly and effortlessly. *winces*

KVM
I've asked my boss and finally got the OK to get a second PC hooked up on my desk at work. Problem is - I have very little space. I'm in the old Recon Suite, in one of the offices in the back of the suite on a desk that has just enough space to fit a stacked tray thing, a computer, a phone and this 15 inch flat screen monitor, with a bit of space to work and doodle when I'm brainstorming ideas for database enhancements or queries or whatnot.
So, to compensate, I asked if I could get a KVM for my set up. KVM - Keyboard, Video, Mouse - is essentially a Keyboard, Video input and Mouse input splitter, much in the way you buy a splitter to make one cable line run to two tv's. This thing takes two PCs and allows you to use one Keyboard, one mouse and one monitor to operate both of them. I bought this one, by IOgear. It got good reviews, and Best Buy had them.
The second computer reads fine, I just can't get it to hook up to the network. That will require IT intervention, unfortunately. So for now, I'm still running on my old set up: build query, run query, wait 20 minutes. Rinse, repeat.
I'm currently rinsing. *checks watch* Should be done soon. Hopefully will come back with correct data. Else I'll be waiting another 20 minutes to test another version of it. ]
Fun Fun.

set power = {ON}
Jeez'o'petes. You never really miss something until it's gone, eh?
You never appreciate it until it's gone, either.
I actually agree with our dumb-ass-of-a-president for a change: we ought to fix the infrastructue so that some line problems in Cleveland doesn't knock out 50 million people off the power system. 1965, 1977 and 2003 .... 3 times in 38 years. Averaging once a decade here ... LET'S FIX IT.
Visit the Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers sweepstakes. From Amazon.com. Win a trip to New Zealand!
I'd so be there. Rohan was simply stunning. I want to see the real deal.
Just a warning, though. This appears in the Sweepstakes fine print: "By entering, online entrants may receive Amazon.com newsletter and other promotional mailings."
*shrugs*
I can always block them if they get annoying.

Bored Now
At work. Don't want to be. *shrugs*
Alone Time
This may sound like an odd conundrum - but I've been in the for some alone time of late. Some down time. Something.
Only problem is, I hate being someplace all by myself. I hate the obscene silence of a house that only makes noise when I do. Maybe it's a throw back fear to being alone, which is one of the biggest fears I have.
Jarrod heads out Friday for his annual forage into the generations of Van Kirks in Pennsylvania. Family Reunion. I considered going, but I know he's going to be busy meeting and visiting with lots of people that he knows but that I don't and that I probably wouldn't remember. Plus there's staying at his grandparents house - who are nice people - but I'd be in the twin bed in a separate bedroom. When we did that last year I wasn't sure if that was because of the bedding situation in general (they have small beds), or for their comfort level. So, I decided not to go.
Which leaves me with my former dilema.
Moon and Nuadha will come Saturday to play PSO, since Matthew's kind enough to leave his GameCube for me whilst he's at his sister's wedding. Friday night isn't blocked for anything yet, and I might go see my parents on Sunday. I'm also going out for a bit on Saturday to buy a crepe pan (so Kristen can make crepes at the Cabin and teach me how to make them ;) ) and pick up the new rug for the dining area at GCO.
Still, I know the house will be far too quiet this weekend. Will be happy when the hubby comes back home from his trip.

Apathy
Seems to be the order of the day. The afternoon is improving, though...

I don't want to be here today
Problem is, I don't know where else I'd *want* to be today.

Rest....
This week has been simply insane at work. I've been involved in a project that started small, and has grown to the point where we're talking about reorganizing our entire department of 300 people. I've been cheifly involved with the data collection of our 'pilot' group, to prove statistically that the new departmental model is better than the old one. Data collection ceased on Friday last, and my number crunching began.
It was a whirlwind, but I think I got them a solid data set with MORE detail than they thought we could get. I think they were impressed ;)
Friday night
I saw these people: http://www.worldclassicrockers.com/index2.cfm
It was the annual sales party at work. They rented out the EMU Convocation center, catered food in, had an open bar, and the suprise entertainment for the evening was those gentlemen. The theme of this year's sales party was "Biker Bash" - so there were many, many people in ripped shirts, denim and leather.
It was kinda fun, even though the most leather I wore was the 'gay shoes' I own and my belt ;)

Where everybody knows your name....
Not Cheers. Starbucks.
I was ordering my weekly/biweekly French Vanilla Latte and handed over my credit card, when the lady at the register says, "I know your card says 'Please see ID', but I know who you are..."
Eeks :D
