Classes - Winter 2003 and Spring 2003
That time of the semester - scheduling for Winter. I actually missed my appointment - It was supposed to be November 25th. I was curious why I hadn't received any communication from the Registrar's office about my appointment time, and then remembered that when the U switched to all-online registration, that the Registrar's office no longer sent out e-mails on your registration time, rather, you're expected to check Wolverine Access for your time yourself. This, I think, is bad. My prof in the tech/humanities class calls it "push" versus "pull" technology. "Push" would be WolverineAccess sending ME an e-mail to tell me what my time is. "Pull" is me exerting the effort to find my time. I think I get his point, now - I'd rather have the silly e-mail to tell me what time I should register.
Anyways.
I registered, only 5 days late. Which shouldn't be so bad. The class I've been eyeing for 3 semesters is full AGAIN, but this time I managed to get on the waitlist at #5, which means I have pretty good odds of getting in it. The course is English 450: Sex and Religion in Medieval Drama. Sounds fun ;) I also registered for English 308: The History of the English Language, and English 367: Shakespeare's Plays. Eng367 looks really neat, but it's at a very cumbersome time slot in relation to the other two, so I may opt to take it in the Spring Term.
Spring Term I've been brooding about this for some time now. I'm really tired of school. It interferes a lot with other things I'd like to be doing - hanging out with friends. Pursuing more career advancements (read: more MONEY). Hobbies I'd love to devote more time too. Matthew calls and wants to do things a lot, and I'd love to - if I weren't obligated to all this homework.
*sighs*
I like summer break. It breaks up the monotony of school, and allows me time to do the things I'd like to do more. But, this whole 2-3 more till graduation really has me peeved. I'd like to be done, NOW.
So. Spring Term. I found a class that would work towards my major. I don't think I could handle two spring-term classes, since that's considered "full time". I'll take one, and see how it goes. Eng367 is offered in the spring term, so If I don't get into Eng450 (sex and religion in medieval drama), then I'll take Eng367. If I do get in, though, I'll take Eng367 in the spring term, and get another class towards my major out of the way. That'll make things feel better.
Where I'm At I have 93 credits, total, after this semester is over (assuming I pass everything with a "C" or greater). I have 3 more classes to take for my major - two 4 credit courses and a 3 credit course. This will put me at 102 credits total, with 18 left for graduation. 18 credits of WHATEVER I WANT TO TAKE. This is nice :) I might toss in an LGBT minor - or just play. I'm really enjoying my classic civ class, so I might take some more in Classics. Or some art classes (never taken any). Or some music classes (I miss playing my instrument). Or .. Or.... anything. Things are winding down to the end, and I'm very eager just to see it DONE.

Good Afternoon
I blinked, and my morning turned to Noon. Eesh.
My to-do list is about a mile long. At work, at school, and at home.
I'll be so happy when I can knock school off that list. Permanently.
San-Check
Rolled this morning. Double 9's. You're supposed to get UNDER your san-score, right? I don't know what my san-score is, but I'm sure it's not higher than 99. I'm sure I'll start seeing Dimentional Shamblers emerging from the elevator ANY time now...

I'm learning SQL.
It's slow going. Thankfully, Access has a semi-decent GUI for query-makin'. But you still need to know a left join from a right join from an inner join and an outer join. It's lotsa joining and merging and arrows and ... fun.
Yea, you heard me. Fun. In a geeky-I-made-this-work kinda way.

There was a weekend?
I guess there was. I mean, I heard the words "Saturday" and "Sunday" on the radio driving to and fro.
Rock candy making went faster this year - which is to say that I got home at about the same time as last year (midnight), but we crammed in 9 more batches than last year. We also decided to doulbe-strength some of them; made them a lot more flavorful. Peach tastes like peach, instead of sugar with a vague suggestion of peach. My thumbs don't hurt like last year -- it took nearly three weeks to regain feeling in parts of my two thumbs from all the candy breaking last year. This year, Jennette invested in candy moulds. We had our doubts those first two batches, but they worked beautfully after we had a system figured out. This year, I received only two semi-serious lacerations (the candy is sharp after it comes back from cooling) that requre band-aids, as well as a about a half-dozen minor lacerations. There was a minor incident with an exacto knife which doesn't require a bandage now that's no longer bleeding; I handed off knife to Andy (Kristen's new beaux) and Kristen to open little jars of flavor thereafter. It was fun, but a lot of work.
And it seems that the groupwork didn't advance much last night. The two people who know how to build websites in FLASH are the two people who routinely cannot make it to group-work meetings. One has legitimate reasons that he spoke about up front. They other -- I have no clue. I'm almost ready to invoke the "I Told You So" incantation. I'll lobby tonight to force this into tables and HTML if they don't show up (again).

The Weekend
Wasn't nearly long enough. Had a nice dinner on Sunday with two friends we're just getting to know. Met with the class group for a good chunk of Sunday - and three people were absent, including the two people who any lick about Flash and who lobbied for a Flash-driven page. Saturday was spent helping my sister move into her new home - which is just adorable. It's a two story remodeled home from the early 1900's (decade, as in 1903). Some builder bought it last fall as a HUD home and as a winter project, remodeled the whole thing. Updated everything, redid everything; turned it back into a single unit from a duplex. It's got about 50 windows in it, and gets a lot of light. It's really neat.
The Week Ahead
Will be full of Group Project "Fun", and reading for class since I'm a bit behind now. I don't think we have Friday night spoken for, yet, but Saturday will be moving Jarrod's folks to the House on the Lake, Sunday will be spent making Rock Candy at the sister's new house, and one day in the weekend will need to be spent on the group project. That'll be interesting, seeing that I've accounted for 3 weekend days and I only have 2 weekend days upcoming. Guess that's how Enron Accounting worked. *shrugs*

Hello, world
Work's going well, I've a lull in training. I'm going to feel a bit behind at first, I know, and it doesn't help that I'm still geographically on the 7th floor in my OLD area.
Our company is great in some area, and terribly inefficient in other areas. IT is one. Moving people is another. There's another department or two that I know don't operate very efficiently. It just simply means we all sit and wait.
I'm also a bit frustrated with my "status". I've been in the new area every day for about a week now, sitting with the old DB person, learning how things operate. I was told that Monday, there'd be an announcement about me moving into the new area. There wasn't one. I've been asked by three people why I'm down there. I'm not supposed to say "I'm your new coworker!" The announcement keeps getting pushed back. I'd kind of like acknowledgement, for one, and I'd like to not have to keep telling people -- "Just observing, thanks." Gr.

Work is busy now. It's a nice change.
I voted this morning. A Teacher from Ypsi High was there with the Mrs, little Tyler and littler Marissa. Luckily, Dad was right in front of me. He decided that the best course for the morning was to chat with EVERYONE around him about the election ("Check your chads, everyone...Har Har Har..:) while mediating the climbing children and their disputes about Cheating by not staying behind the Blue Line when Tossing a Quarter into a Shoe and a theft allegation on the older's part, since he needed more quarters to toss into his shoe.
I suppose he didn't know that I I'm not overly fond of mornings or rambuctuous children who wail when their quarter is stolen.
Ah Well.

Busy day yesterday. Bad, grumpy afternoon too. I kept trying to cast my spell of Fiery Death (tm) on a group member in class yesterday, but I wasn't working. I'm not really in tune with the Fire Elements, I suppose. Perhaps I should try Irradiant Death (tm) next time? Or Flare ... flare is non-elemental. That might work.
He basically told us in a 2 hour hash session with the professor to try and figure out what the hell we're going to do for a group project (which is 50% of the class grade, I might add) that he didn't really care about what we were doing, and that he wasn't going to be focusing on the class or project in any way but cursory. He's taking a frickin' course entitled "Technology and the HUMANITIES" and "isn't concerned with this humanities stuff." A quote, from HIM. ISN't CONCERNED WITH IT? That's what the class IS.
*grumbles*
Work is busy for me again. Busy in an interesting way, rather than a "lets see how many refinances you can look at today ...." way. I'm getting a crash course in the database that runs the new area. It's messy. Powerful, and has a lot of neat access tricks, but messy. The people in my old area (the supersvisors) are giving me cold-shoulders, now. At least, it seems that way. I'm probably just being overly sensative about it. *sighs*
