Tapping the friend network....

Google, supposedly, makes better rankings based on the number of the links to a site.

I've been working on a site for a dear friend. If you wouldn't mind, put a link to her site on your blog or LJ, please?

http://www.cincyrolfer.com -- Rolfing in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

Code below, switch the "[" to "<" and "]" to ">":

Thanks!

Been a while...

It's been a while since my last post.

It's mostly apathy, frustration, and busy-ness that's the root. The election sucked rocks and has really shaken my belief that Americans are intelligent. I didn't feel like venting that in writing afterwards. I was just too peeved. Then vacation reared up, and I was swept away to Portland, OR for a week. I didn't pay attention to much news, though I did cheer when someone told me Ashcroft resigned. Prick. "We're all safe now...". We are? Good to know. Guess Bushwhacker didn't need to run on the "I'm tough on terrorism" platform.

I'm feeling, overall, tired. Like there isn't enough time to do everything in the day that I want to do. I'm guessing that it'll settle, eventually. If not before the wedding, then after.

Wedding plans proceed. We've a lot of work to do, but we'll get it done. I'm sure it will be worth it, in the end, barring any weirdness from family.

Work is ... work. I'm loosing a friend and mentor to a new company. It's a better place for him, it's closer to his BF in WV, but it will still be hard. I now have no one to bring the hard-hard stuff to. We'll have to muddle through as best as we can. I know we'll be fine. Eventually.

One of my staff is being overly-stressed. It's proving difficult to convince him the world isn't ending tomorrow. Fun Fun.

Thanksgiving is next week -- wow November flew by quick. I'm hosting at my place this year, so I get to make the whole she-bang. Should be interesting and fun, providing nothing ill happens. Sitcoms over-exagerate, I know, but I can't help but think my turkey will be a dry charcoal when I'm done with it.

And on life goes. Stamping tonight, dinner out to "celebrate" my mentor's new job, Buffy on Saturday (unless the GM cancels), Olive oil tasting on Monday; Thanksgiving next Thursday. City of Heroes and website work on evenings not otherwise occupied.

And on we go.

Received the Stalwart Medalion!

...and ever since, Ilios has made a career change. He's now a certified Arsonist. (Burnburnburnburnburnburnburnburnburnburnburn)

Weeeeeeeeeeeee.

There's a difficult task built into City of Heroes which essentially allows you to reselect all your powers from the ground up. I attempted it 4 times to no avail, with multiple deaths.

On my 5th attempt, I assembled a team. I hand-picked the people, and turned a few away. The mission is difficult enough that I knew I needed a balanced skill set. 4 blasters and a Tanker wasn't going to work.

So, team assembled -- I had the strategy and conveyed it to the players. With the exception of one Scrapper who occasionally strayed (and who died as a result of it), people listened. And we completed the task.

I was so geeked. ;)

The Raise and Promotion ...officially official

It started in June. Was talked about in July and August. Promised in August....September ... and it's finally here.

Bureacracy is King, apparently, but the little guy wins today. Not quite what it was advertised as, but what is, really?

Avenue Q is definitely the music of choice on the iPod today:
"The sun is shining it's a lovely day
a perfect morning for a kid to play.
But you've got lots of bills to pay,
What can you do?

You work real hard and the pay's real low
and every hour goes oh-so-slow
and at the end of the day there's no where to go
but home to Avenue Q."

Don't you just love...

...Managers who call your work "inept" and your data "invalid" when you've worked very hard on it and warned them every step of the way that the way they want it crunched would have a lot of noise and give them data they don't want?

I really love that. Really. May 2006, and I'm free. May 2005 and I'm mostly free.

busy!

Last week's been a bit busy. But in a good way.

The weekend was fun, but full. Saturday was hosting a friend's bday party and sunday was the RennFest. My costume turned out really well!

I was very happy with it. Festival was DRY, Warm and dusty, though.

The week's been full, too. Helped Matthew with a computer purchase Monday night; got my hair cut and ran an errand Tuesday; and helped Matthew troubleshoot a sound issue with the new machine and planted 3 of the trees gifted to us by Jenn and Mark (Thank you!).

Today I may end up working late to finish this silly project that's lingered for MONTHS. It's got a "drop dead due date" by tomorrow.

Oh, and on top of the busy-ness, allergies have been killing me. The doctor visit Tuesday and the new prescription stuff seems to be helping, though.

I'm looking forward to a slow(er) weekend.

Blue...

HASH(0x8c28d38)
You're the color blue. You have the three c's in
life--you're cool, caring and confident.
Trustworthy and honest, people are naturally
attracted to you. You're unusually optimistic,
but that makes life all the better. You're an
imaginative person who loves sleeping and
dreaming. Hard-working and determined, you
excell in school. You're everybody's favorite,
and this is because you have this undefined
richness in your personality and attitude.
Mild-tempered and stable. Not to mention very
intelligent. Along with the fact that you're
conservative, you're worried about the
environment. So basically, you're a generous,
dependable and devoted--just the kind of person
everybody needs. Wouldn't it be great if
everybody in the world were like you?

What color are you? (Amazingly detailed & accurate--with pics!)

Defying Gravity

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap!

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!

GLINDA
Can't I make you understand?
You're having delusions of grandeur

ELPHABA
I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

Doublet

I keep meaning to post pics of my progress, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I made amazing progress on the doublet's hand-stitching while at the cabin. I think I've got a couple of hours more of hand-sewing left (whip-stitching seams) once I find time to schedule the remaining machine-sewing. It's going to look really fabulous. I'm glad I trusted M's eye for the details. I was dubious at first, but as it came together I grew increasingly happy with how it looked.

Work....a four-letter word

Ah. Work. After a vacation -- which was fun -- work seems like settling back down into the bit. *pull* *pull* Ow. Yea. *slumps*

But, I feel refreshed. And in about 2 months, I'll be off to Portland for ACNW. The venue is divine, and I'm looking forward to seeing Portland this time 'round.

*STAMP*

I'm now the owner of my first rubber and wood-block stamp:

I, in the least, wanted a stamp that was my "signature". I figure I can still bum the use of stamps that my Friend, the Stamp Lady, has ;)

R-R-R-Red....Alert....

The new building's emergency alarm sounds a LOT like the Enterprice-C's Red Alert Alarm. Weird ;) We had an alarm of some sort. Still unsure if it was a drill or an actual 'situation', but we're back in the building 30 minutes later. Having to evacuate means less work time, eh?

Vacation day tomorrow and Friday. Happy Friday!

Very much looking forward to the trip to the cabin.

5:00 PM, please?

So not wanting to be at work today.

I was late this morning. I attempted, with no success, to tie a freakin' tie this morning. I figured -- I'm going out to dinner tonight with friends, I'm wearing a shirt that one of J's ties would look cool with, so I attempted. Utterly failed. So I flipped the computer on, and hit Google. Two print-outs, several attempts and 30 minutes later, I think I got something that looked decent. Then I tried to push the little tab in back into the slot thingie that all ties have ... and the threads on one of the tab thingie were busted. So, my options where to get a needle and thread and fix it, making myself MORE late, or removing the noose. I opted for the latter.

Oi.

I've been barraged since I got into work, too. People needing to talk to me. Don't they KNOW that I'm just listening to them, thinking about City of Heroes, Sewing, Dinner tonight and Vacation next week?
