Aelric Barimen Carinor

"My hands are small I know,
but they're not yours they are my own,
They're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken."

General Information
Aelric is about 5 feet, 11 inches tall with brown hair, blue eyes and a moderate build. Aelric likes to know a little about everything, and can hold a conversation when it suits him. Aelric once was the "Knight in Shining Armor" type, and saved his shadow from a demon invasion. People raised him as a hero, but, after years in that role with no apparent aging, people began to fear him. Rumors flew that he was a demon himself. His moods became darker and he withdrew from the public limelight. He sought other realms to save, eventually stumbling into Amber. In Amber, he has become frustrated and even more withdrawn as he struggles to find his identity, protect his family, retain his privacy and break the puppet strings tied to him.
History
Aelric was born in the shadow Arnok, a hell designed by Llateri. He was borne the son of Caine and Felicity in the small outskirts village of Tristram. Caine left before Aelric was born, and he did not know the man until later in his life.

As Aelric grew up, he had a basic education from his mother. He studied for a time to be a blacksmith and follow in his grandfather's footsteps but had no interest in it. After Aelric exhausted the meager library in Tristram, he still thirsted for Knowledge. At the age of 17, his curiosity could be contained no longer. He left his village for larger pursuits.

Times were getting rough in Arnok. Droughts had ruined the crops for several years running and there was little relief in sight. Aelric studied at the University in the Seaport of Trillock. He learned of magic and studied the Art heavily. He seemed to have a slight gift here -- he could summon forth forces that most people needed years to learn. This would prove quite useful.

Aelric studied at the University for almost a year when the Dark Riders appeared. They came by ship and took the port towns to the North of Trillock. Rumors floated in from refugees that the Riders were Evil Incarnate. They swept through and destroyed all that opposed them. It was rumored that the leader, a large man in a gray cloak on a gray colored horse, was the greatest fighter any had seen. Worried, young Aelric left academia as soon as he heard of their path: directly towards Tristram.

His mother dead and the town in ruins, Aelric swore to avenge her death. With the help of an drunkard man, a blacksmith, a bar maid, a peg legged boy, an old witch, and a mysterious old man he delved into the cathedral that had been run over with demons. He honed his magical skills and learned a great deal from the witch and old man as he went farther and farther into the underground.

Aelric discovered that the Arch-Bishop Lazurus of the One True One's Church had captured the King's only son, Albrecht, as an offering to the Lord of Darkness. He told of a hideous ritual with which a great demon, DIABLO, would be brought to life to wreck havoc upon the world. The Arch-Bishop attacked and Aelric defended himself. The Arch-Bishop, with his last breath, told Aelric how to reach DIABLO: "Traverse the Pentagram..." Aelric discovered a glowing inscribed path upon the ground, walked the path, and willed himself to be brought to Diablo. The Lord of Darkness was waiting. A great battle ensued and the Lord Diablo attacked. As the battle progressed and Aelric was weakening, a shift occurred in the Pentagram. It became more elliptical in nature...and Aelric sensed a power emanating from it. In a flash of instinct, Aelric summoned forth the power of the Pentagram....and destroyed the Lord of Darkness. As he fell, Diablo released a small red stone....and the missing Prince Albrecht appeared.

With the return of the prince, Aelric was decreed the Hero of Arnok. The Light had prevailed. Reports of two other demons persisted, and Aelric pursued them. He tracked Bael and Maphisto through strange lands and defeated them. His powers had grown substantially...and he could summon tendrils from the red pentagram and use its image as a shield; the demons perished easily.

Aelric served as Regent for several years, until young Albrecht could be crowned King. Suspicion and rumor that the ageless Aelric was also a demon, and he withdrew from the public. After decades of being the Hero of Arnok, the scorn and sideways glances finally pushed him to the edge of his self-confidence. He began the search for his Father.
